Apologies in advance this article is likely to make you feel absolutely ruddy ancient. But, as we approach then end of 2015 and the cinematic promises of the New Year, now is the perfect time to look back at the films that are about to turn ten years old as we careen into 2016. 2006, as you may or may not remember, was a big year for cinema. Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe and all its imitators hadnt kicked off yet, we were already well into the age of superhero cinema that still rules today. Christopher Nolan, Bryan Singer, Martin Scorsese and many more famous directors all had movies out; there was action, drama, and a certain numerically significant super spy got a big screen reboot. A naff sequel came out, in a franchise that could well win an Oscar next year. J.J. Abrams was shaking cameras and lensing flares like he still is today. One particular cinematic shot from 2006 is now rightly considered one of cinemas truly iconic images. But all of that pales into insignificance against the terrifying revelation that you're old, and films you thought came out a couple of years ago have quietly been around for a decade.
