With almost 20 movies under its belt over the last decade, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an unquestionable industry unto itself, and as such it's little surprise that the franchise's carefully-laid plans have changed from time to time.

With consistent critical acclaim and box office success, it's honestly incredible the series hasn't fully stumbled yet, though Thor: The Dark World arguably came pretty close. Still, there's plenty of evidence to suggest that, were things a little different, the MCU could've gone south a while ago.

Sure, it's possible that these 10 potential plots, deaths, cameos and casting decisions could've worked with the help of Kevin Feige's magic touch, but considering that they're largely counter to what fans actually got and seemingly enjoyed, it's hard to imagine them being executed more successfully (with an exception or two).

Either way, given how sharply they veer from the end result, it's interesting to take a glimpse at the MCU's creative process, and the sheer litany of outlandish, seemingly foolhardy ideas they actually entertain.

Then again, was everyone totally on-board with a talking CGI raccoon joining the MCU back in 2014? Absolutely not...
