As a kid I watched movies all the time (still do). However, back in the early 90s you couldnt just go online and stream a movie on your parents Netflix account. Getting ahold of new movies wasnt such an easy task for someone who didnt get an allowance. Back then even pirating films was a hassle: youd have to wait until a movie played on TV and then get your dad to record it on a VHS tape, pausing the recording everytime it went to commercial. Because that was a total chore, and because kids couldnt just go out and rent movies anytime they wanted -- at least not where I grew up -- I mostly had to stick to re-watching the films already in my VHS collection. This meant that there were a good number of movies that I watched practically on repeat; up until the magnetic tape wore out and made them literally unplayable. Its October and everyone else on the internet is gearing up for Halloween, so not wanting to feel left out I decided to put together a list of 10 great children's films from the 80s and 90s that you watched over and over, even though they gave you nightmares. First I should clarify one thing: when I say you, what I really mean to say is I. While making this list I realized that some of the films on here are pretty obscure and probably didnt play in every kids home. But what would be the fun in reading a totally predictable list anyway? If I can convince anyone to see one of these films that they missed out on as a kid, or to show to their own kids, Ill consider myself a successful advocate of the medium. If you have seen all these movies then you clearly had a pretty cinematically rich childhood as well: high five. So heres my list of 10 awesome childrens films of the 80s and 90s that I repeatedly allowed to scare the sh*t out of me.
