One of Hollywood's sneakier tricks of recent years has been to market movies as sequels that are, in fact, stealthy reboots intended to sell the same premise to a whole new generation.

Consider the likes of Jurassic World, Mad Max: Fury Road, Creed, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Blair Witch: they're all films that were pitched to audiences as follow-ups but essentially sought to repackage the original style, iconography and success for contemporary, young viewers who've possibly never even seen the original films. Note the distinct lack of numbers in the aforementioned movie titles.

It's a formula that's been tremendously successful over the last few years, so expect Hollywood to only get more insidious and sneaky with it from now on. As such, though these 10 movies are being marketed as sequels, they're really aiming to rehash prior glories for maximum financial gain and even refreshed franchise potential.
