What would any superhero movie be without a handful of sneaky cameos?

It's practically expected to see a couple of blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo appearances in any new superhero film, yet even as far back as Richard Donner's seminal 1978 Superman film, the genre has had a knack for it.

And while many of these cameos are simply playful appearances from expected names and faces, every so often a less-predictable public figure might show up, flying under the radar to the point that you probably didn't even notice them.

Over more than 40 years of movies, the Man of Steel's cinematic output has boasted its share of bizarre, eyebrow-raising bit-parts, whether celebrities who used their clout to score a cameo, on-the-rise actors showing up for a hot minute, or in one case, an appearance by a beloved Superman character so inexplicable it left the fanbase fuming.

And here's a fun bit of trivia: an earlier draft of Superman '78's script actually featured a cameo from legendary TV detective Kojak (Telly Savalas), with the character making a tongue-in-cheek appearance when Supes mistakes him for Lex Luthor.
