12 Terrible 2017 Movies "Snubbed" By The Razzies
The Snowman was robbed.
As is annual tradition, the nominations for the Golden Raspberry Awards - aka The Razzies - have been announced, and as usual, they're...interesting.
Though the idea of an anti-Oscars ceremony is pretty neat, the problem with the Razzies is that they too often pick on what's fashionable to hate on, rather than what's actually deserving of derision.
For example, Mother! was nominated for Worst Director (Darren Aronofsky), Worst Actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and Worst Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem), but even if you weren't keen on the film, to deem it among the worst of the year in any respect is absolutely laughable.
In a world where these 12 films exist and were completely shut out by Razzie voters - that's anyone who pays the membership fee, by the way - it's hard to consider the awards show particularly "credible", though perhaps that's ultimately the point of it all.
Still, if nominees were selected on pure merit - or rather, demerit - these dozen films would all rack up their share of nominations across the major categories. Instead, they got "snubbed" of their chance for "honours"...
12. Flatliners
Flatliners should've been a shoo-in for a nomination in the "Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel" category above all else, and it's certainly a worse film than Worst Picture nominees Baywatch, The Mummy and Transformers: The Last Knight.
A tedious, pointless retread of Joel Schumacher's 1990 cult horror classic - which honestly isn't even that great to begin with - the new Flatliners brings almost nothing new of interest to the table, mostly settling for cheap, predictable jump scares and stamina-draining exposition dumps.
Quite what possessed the likes of Ellen Page and Diego Luna to star in this dreck is anyone's guess, because given the film's paltry $19 million budget, it sure wasn't a fat payday.
What It Should've Been Nominated For: Worst Picture, Worst Director (Niels Arden Oplev), Worst Supporting Actor (Kiefer Sutherland), Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel and Worst Screenplay.
