Ideal escapism for self-isolation.

After months of anticipation, Disney's streaming service Disney+ has finally arrived in the UK and it couldn't have arrived at a better time. It's got a great selection of movies and that's exactly what everyone needs to get through the misery of the current situation.

In terms of genre, many of the films do admittedly skew much more towards the fantasy and animation genres, but there is still a great (although smaller) selection of science-fiction movies to enjoy as well.

Sure, there are also science-fiction duds on Disney+ such as Tron: Legacy, Iron Man 2, Thor: The Dark World, Solo: A Star Wars Story and...erm... Chicken Little (?), but for the most part their line-up of science-fiction films is pretty strong and well worth exploring.

These following fifteen films are a great place to start when exploring Disney+'s sci-fi round-up and remember, it's not all about Star Wars and the MCU...

15. X-Men: Days Of Future Past

Now that Disney owns Fox, it owns the X-Men franchise and some but not all of the X-Men films are available on Disney Plus. Unfortunately, the three best movies in the franchise - Logan, Deadpool 2 and X-Men: First Class - are not currently available, but there's still a good selection of the X-Men films overall; this 2014 instalment in particular is essential viewing for genre fans.

Days of Future Past is a very accomplished superhero film and one of the franchise's finest offerings. It's visually stunning and has some awesome action sequences, but impressively it's actually in the dramatic moments where it really shines. The extraordinary cast absolutely kill it, especially Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender and Patrick Stewart, and it's loaded with stirring emotional drama and well-written dialogue scenes.

And the best thing? It retcons all those stupid story decisions and unnecessary deaths in X-Men: The Last Stand.
