Sequels are the lifeblood that keep Hollywood afloat, because any studio that likes money - that is, all of them - wants to have as many lucrative, endlessly rehashable franchises under their umbrella as possible.
2021 is set to be a huge year for sequels with a ton of highly publicised new entries into massive franchises, such as Fast 10, The Matrix 4, John Wick 3, Jurassic Park: Dominion, Indiana Jones 5, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and so on.
But what about those below-the-radar follow-ups that might've sneaked past you? Many of these 20 movie sequels are already deep in production, while others are expected to begin principal photography in the coming months for a 2021 bow, should everything go according to plan.
Typically, for as many genuinely intriguing sequels as there are emerging out of nowhere, there's also a slew of painfully unimaginative ones making a desperate attempt to reignite stagnant movie properties.
It remains to be seen how each will turn out, of course - there will be both pleasant surprises and crushing disappointments - but away from the mammoth productions we all know are coming next year, here's a bunch which might've passed you by...
