For any 90s kids looking to suffer an existential crisis, Jim Carrey's classic superhero comedy The Mask turns 30 years old in 2024. Yup.

The ahead-of-its-time tentpole helped bolster Carrey's box office viability just as his career began to skyrocket, and was widely praised for both its remarkable visual effects and Carrey's madcap central performance.

And a quarter-of-a-century later, you know what? It's still a great movie that's aged shockingly well given the sheer amount of cutting-edge VFX elements in play.

The Mask was a hugely complicated production given both the effects-heavy nature of the shoot and the various competing tones at play, but under Chuck Russell's rock solid direction, it all came together splendidly.

As with any Carrey-starring movie, there are a ton of intriguing behind-the-scenes stories about not only the comedy legend's own eccentric behaviours, but also his game co-stars, the headache-inducing process of shooting the film and, of course, those sneaky nods and references you never even noticed...
