A classic action movie truly is a thing of beauty. Theres something wonderfully rewarding about watching an individual overcoming incredible odds all while things blow up in their wake. In slow motion. And there are doves. While there are many elements that go into making an action movie great, the obligatory fight scene is still the undeniable cornerstone of the genre. Its always nice to see things explode or to watch a well choreographed shootout but theres something inherently intriguing about watching two people in hand to hand (or lightsaber) combat. Its almost a cathartic experience in a way. When considering the greatest fight scenes in action movie history, its important to take many things into account. You have to consider not just the choreography but everything that goes into making the scene what it is: how the scene is shot, how it sounds, how its paced, how its edited, how well the actors & stuntmen sell it, how its set up, how believable it is (in realistic terms and/or within the world of the story), how well the dialogue (or lack thereof) in it works and how satisfactory it is to the story. It all matters. Be warned the following images, videos and descriptions are strictly for those who enjoy bones breaking, skulls crushing, and overblown egos getting deflated. Proceed with caution.
