This week Warner Bros. announced that they had hired two writers to begin working on scripts for a solo Aquaman film, which will be part of the studio's long-term plans for a DC shared cinematic universe. We don't know when the Atlantean king is expected to hit cinemas, but the studio taking the necessary steps to get a film made is a great first step. Aquaman is undoubtedly one of the harder comic book characters to bring to the big screen. Not only does a director have to somehow create effects-heavy and convincing underwater scenes, but whoever helms the film will need to translate the character's more fantastical elements in a way that general audiences can latch onto. Aquaman is one of the most widely misunderstood characters in the superhero realm, and one that has the most to gain from a well-executed solo film. He'll be making a quick appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 before heading off to join the Justice League, but after that someone will have to take the character from Zack Snyder and give him an exciting solo adventure. Who amongst Hollywood's directors could handle such a task? We have five names in mind. We won't know how likely it will be for any of these directors to actually sign off on an eventual Aquaman film, but for the time being, let's look more at their directing abilities, past work, and unique talents that make them good candidates for a film like this. Then we'll let the studio heads over at Warner Bros decide how to get them to sign on the dotted line. Without further ado... 5 directors who could make a great Aquaman movie.
