Hands. You can't live with 'em and you can't live without 'em. Well that isn't actually true but you can see where I'm going, right? It seems that in the history of film the humble hand has been dealt a pretty rotten hand (no pun intended) when it comes to grizzly on screen departures. Sure there's been plenty of decapitations and disembowelings too but for me no heinous act against the human body causes more "Oooooh's and Aaaaah's" than when someone loses a hand. Imagine your life without your hands. It can't be a great deal of fun for anybody. Of course there are genuinely people out there who lead full and enriched lives regardless of their lack of digits but for those of us who have never - and hopefully will never - experience life without our hands the whole idea seems utterly daunting. With that in mind I got to thinking about some of the most gruesome hand 'amputation' scenes in the history of cinema. There's been plenty but 5 in particular spring to mind. Just to be clear I'm using the term 'amputation' loosely as some of this appendages were removed by much more erroneous means. So without further ado let's crack on. It's time dear readers to bid farewell to arms. Click next to unveil our first entry in the What Culture list of The 5 Most Gruesome Hand Amputation Scenes Ever.
