I finally got round to watching the latest Die Hard film - A Good Day To Die Hard - the other day. Never before has a movie title been so inaccurate. For starters, it was most definitely not a good day. After I'd wasted near-on two hours watching it, my day had been made marginally worse. So what was wrong with, exactly? Lots. With countless CGI explosions, a lack of wit or intelligence, awful characters and action scenes that bored rather than thrilled, it all basically comes down to this: it just doesn't feel anything like a Die Hard movie. Thankfully, I was able to remedy the situation quickly enough. I dug out the original on DVD - an antidote of sorts to the awfulness I'd just sat through. And you know what I was reminded as I did? The Die Hard is, quite simply, the greatest action film of all time. It's a combination of so many things - the layered script, superb characters, heart-stopping set pieces, real emotion, a liberal dose of black humour, and some of the most quotable dialogue you could wish to hear - that make it a timeless classic. In fact, Ive gone as far as to put together a whopping 50 reasons as to why it's the greatest. So slip your own copy into the DVD player, pop on the sofa with me (toffee popcorn please) and lets watch this thing through together all over again. Oh, and if you haven't seen Die Hard (what's wrong with you?) please note that there will be lots of spoilers ahead...
