When it comes to hoaxes, movies provide huge scope for messing with the general public. For a start, movies already exist in a fascinating space between fiction and reality. We go to the cinema in order to try and believe in invention. For this reason, we're somewhat predisposed to believing what we see up on the screen. We don't believe that Star Wars is real, but we do believe the stories we hear about how it was made. It's these behind-the-scenes elements that fuel many of greatest ever movie hoaxes. After all, films are difficult to make, and there are all sorts of obstacles involved (that's not to mention the hundreds and hundreds of people involved day to day). Surely something sinister has to go wrong sometime, right? From disgruntled actors committing suicide to ghostly apparitions caught on film, there are all kinds of hoaxes and lies (or urban legends if you prefer) that spawn from movies (and the making of movies)...
