The award season is upon us €“ from now until February all film buffs will be talking about is the long red carpet journey to Hollywood and speculating who will or won€™t be taking home the gold. Even this early on, it€™s already clear who the big hitters and the Oscar baiting flops are, with Michael Fassbender's take on Steve Jobs jumping to the head of the queue as the heavy favourite for the Oscar while The Program€™s take on Lance Armstrong€™s €˜career€™ has already fallen short of the mark. Not to mention we€™ve still got Tarantino's much anticipated The Hateful Eight and the hype surrounding Leo's latest attempt at becoming more than an Oscar Nominee with The Revenant still to come, we are gearing up for a packed season. With all those films in mind, it's hard to look back at the past Summer and think there are any films that will be knocking on the doors to the Dolby Theatre next year. It really does seem all you need to do to have your name called on stage is star in a biopic, direct a holocaust film or be Daniel Day Lewis. The Academy knows what it likes and what it doesn't, and unfortunately no matter how critically acclaimed they are or how much money they make, summer blockbusters often go unnoticed. While everyone is gearing for the festival season, let's look back at the summer that passed and the films that we're most likely to see in that converted golden envelope when all the stars head down the red carpet in February.
