A second name has turned up online for Uhura!

This one has her own Avatar for James Cameron which might conflict her chances of filming Star Trek.

UPDATED: Just as I was posting this, Quint over at AICN hints at a very interesting theory for the explanation of how Star Trek will be a re-boot. Very interesting and well worth a read. It's been quiet the last two weeks in Star Trek land as J.J. Abrams is still putting his cast together for next year's reboot of the sci-fi franchise. Two roles are already filled, that of Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the young Russian ensign Chekov (Anton Yelchin) but the roles of Kirk, Scotty, Bones, Sulu, Uhura and the movie's A-List villain are still all to be filled. Previously we heard that Grindhouse hottie Sydney Tamiaa Poitier had auditioned for the role of the ship's sexy female communicator but had not won the part. Now comes word from Trek Movie of an actress who a source close to the production is tipping to be the front runner for the part. Her name... Zoe Saldana. She has one of the lead roles in James Cameron's massive come-back film Avatar and also Vantage Point but you might know her better if I tell you she was that Airport receptionist (I think) in The Terminal which the site have kindly pointed us towards.... (she's already a Trekkie, see below)

She is 29, which is the perfect age for what they are looking for though the problem is the possible shooting conflicts between Avatar and Trek as both movies are expected to be filming through November and December and of course she can't be in two places at once. I quite like this girl, I think she could do a good job if cast. She is extremely likable, looks quite a bit like a 60's Nichelle Nichols who played the role originally and is an actress who has a multitude of film roles but still has the luxury of being an unknown.
