Alex Garland, cult writer/novelist of Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, Sunshine and The Beach is in talks to write Warner Bros. 3D sci-fi movie Logan's Run, according to THR. Which is welcomed news, of course. Garland is an awesome science fiction writer and although I've criticised him a little in the past for his troubling third act meanderings, there's no question that his story setups and his psychological & philosophical themes always pack a mighty punch. Where he consistently seems to fall down as a writer for film (not so much in his novels) is that he gets a little bored with his own expansive ideas and panics when it comes to finishing his story. Still, there are few better in the dystopian future genre and although I was skeptical a few weeks ago about the prospects of a big budget Joel Silver produced Logan's Run, with Garland's hiring and the appointment of Ridley Scott portage Carl Erik Rinsch to helm, I'm now willing to have some faith in this project.
