To mark the forthcoming release of the Alien Anthology' 6 disc Blu-Ray set' this Monday the distributors held a special sneak preview at The London Film Museum. The screen was surrounded by props and costumes from the films; most strikingly was the giant Mother alien from James Camerons 'Aliens', which dwarfed over everything and helped create a grand atmosphere, befitting of the films that above almost all other titles should take full advantage of the 1080p and 7 speaker surround sound. And it was the Blu-Rays that stole the show. Coming in a stylish case, the six discs contain all eight cuts of the four Alien movies, fully transferred into Blu Ray high definition and contain over sixty hours of documentaries, feauturettes and interviews, many of which have never before been seen. Plus there is the unique MU-TH-UR mode that gives viewers a revolutionary way of navigating around the glut of special features. The footage that we select few were privy to view confirmed the hopes that the new technology would bring the series firmly into the 21st century. The transfers of 'Alien' and 'Aliens' were supervised by Ridley Scott and James Cameron, respectively, and the scenes that I have viewed so far are a testament to them and the authors of the discs. I now wait in great anticipation for the full films so that I can return to the depths of outer space and be terrified all over again.Stay tuned for a full review of the Alien Anthology Blu-Ray box set. Coming soon.
