Alternative Oscars: The Nominees & Winners For Every Category
No more Oscar bait.
The 89th Academy Awards is very nearly upon us, and as usual, there are plenty of reasons to complain about the line-up of nominees: awesome movies were ridiculously snubbed, not-so-great movies got way too many nominations (looking at you, Lion), and films were disqualified from certain categories altogether for boring bureaucratic reasons that don't concern your average viewer.
The Alternative Oscars seeks to cut down on the Oscar bait, champion some lesser-known, under-appreciated fare and basically present the slate that, in an ideal world, would match up with the actual Oscars themselves.
20. Best Supporting Actor
WINNER: Ben Foster (Hell or High Water)
Easily one of the most egregiously snubbed performances of 2016, Ben Foster brought a ton of uniquely manic energy to David Mackenzie's fantastic neo-western as one half of a fraternal bank robber duo.
Foster has a litany of unhinged performances in his cachet, but not one is as hilarious, demented and downright entertaining as his superb work here.
It's a tough category, but Foster marked out his territory early over the summer and never found a superior opponent despite a few game attempts.
