Avengers Infinity War is a movie that is absolutely full of surprises. From the direction they take the arcs of individual characters to a final scene that stunned entire cinemas into silence, it twists and turns in ways nobody expected.
However its biggest surprise came approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes into its runtime. With no big hints, no big rumours, and pretty much no reason to suspect it whatsoever, Red Skull returned to the MCU.
Having not been seen since Captain America: The First Avenger some 8 years and 13 films ago, his small appearance became one of the most talked about cameos in recent cinema. But, given the wealth of characters at Marvel’s disposal, something like this was inevitable.
That holds true for the follow-up as well. With so many stories to wrap up, and new ones to start, it’s going to take more than the expected faces to pull it off. From the litany of former heroes to the evils yet to come, Endgame could easily pull off a shock way bigger than Red Skull…
