With the release of Avengers: Infinity War, all those nagging questions have finally been answered, and the literally years of rumours, theories and general speculation have been put firmly to bed.
As a star-studded, almost unbelievably epic culmination of a decade of movies, Infinity War largely delivered on its expectations, while serving up a few more surprises than most fans were probably expecting.
While some of the pre-release rumours were correct - Red Skull did indeed appear, and yes, Thanos performed the iconic snap - it's fair to say that a great deal of the rumour-mongering couldn't have been more wrong.
From logical, informed guesses to hilariously outlandish wishful thinking, these 15 rumours were all heavily debated online by fans, but ultimately, all turned out to be total bunk. Isn't 20:20 hindsight wonderful?
Naturally there's the possibility that several of these theories could still come to fruition in Avengers 4, but Infinity War was having none of it...
