Avengers Infinity War Part 1 & 2 To Get New Titles
Captain America: Civil War directors convinced they've made seperate movies.
What we've known as Avengers: Infinity Part 1 and Part 2 for the past few years, won't actually becalled thatwhen they are released in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed to Uproxx that the forthcoming Avengers movies will actually have separate titles, doing away with the Part 1 and 2 subheadings.
The Russo brothers revealed the reasoning behind the, as yet officially revealed, title switch;
The movies are two very different movies, said Joe Russo. Its misleading, agreed Anthony Russo. Joe Russo then added: The intention is we will change it, we just havent come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.
Presumably one will still be called Avengers: Infinity War and the other will have a brand new moniker.
Traditionally in contemporary cinema the Part 1 & 2 schtick has worked wonders at the box office; Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, The Hunger Games, The Hobbit and the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn all enjoyed bigger box office returns by stretching their final sagas into two movies but with diminishing returns and fan exhaustion at The Hunger Games and The Hobbit for doing it, perhaps that gimmick has had its day?
Marvel's Cinematic Universe shows no signs of winding down as the years go by, perhaps the deeper reason behind the title change is that the studio aren't looking for the movie to feel like an event/universe climaxer. It's not meant to be a conclusive ending to the saga after all.
Still, it's gonna take some time for us to stop thinking of Avengers Infinity War as not being a two part saga but the Russo brothers seem convinced they have two separate movies with two separate themes on their hands. Interesting to see how this one plays out.
Whatever they end up being called, the next two Avengers movies are due May 4th, 2018 and May 3rd, 2019 respectively.
