Avengers: Infinity War - Why It Was Impossible To Use The Defenders
This movie has enough heroes.
Next month's Avengers: Infinity War will unite the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe to face down the biggest threat the galaxy has ever faced.
Well, almost the entire MCU.
While heroes from across the 18 movies will be appearing to take on Thanos, there isn't any room in the film for the TV characters, despite the popularity of the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Speaking to French outlet Premiere, co-director Joe Russo said:
"We have considered everything. But the trick is that we already have at least sixty characters with whom we must tell a story! And it’s hard enough to communicate with Taika Waititi, Ryan Coogler, Scott Derrickson, Peyton Reed and James Gunn at the same time, not to add all the showrunners and TV crews to this. The latter is also led by totally different people. So it’s practically impossible. Our job is to focus on the Marvel film world and offer a satisfying climax."
It's an understandable position, and from what we've seen so far it doesn't look like the movie is lacking whatsoever in the hero stakes.
While it'd be nice to see the silver screen MCU at least nod towards the TV shows, it's also unclear how much help some of them would be in the fight (except for, say, Luke Cage or Daisy), how the tones would mesh together, and how you'd carry over their character arcs.
