Barry Levinson boards the noir TRAIN
A crime/thriller in the mold of L.A. CONFIDENTIAL.
Veteran comedy director Barry Levinson will adapt Pete Dexter's L.A. noir novel Train for Lakeshore Entertainment says The Hollywood Reporter. Allison Burnett (Untraceable, Feast of Love) will adapt.

The 1950s-set "Train" centers on Miller Packard, a white sergeant in the San Diego Police Department, and a young black golf caddy named Lionel "Train" Walk, who harbors knowledge of a murder, and what happens when the characters collide. The mystery also explores themes of city politics and racism in midcentury Southern California.Dexter's novel Mullholland Falls has already been adapted into a film in 1996 starring Nick Nolte, with another of his novels - The Paperboy expected to be adapted soon by Paul Verhoeven and Jan De Bont. Levinson is the Academy Award winning director of Rain Man whose latest movie What Just Happened? starring Robert De Niro as fading Hollywood producer is receiving terrific buzz. It opens in October.
