There are certain inevitabilities in life: death, taxes and the Batman saga being unceremoniously rebooted within the next few years. I would like to point out that I am completely against this concept. I would love it if Warner Brothers and DC would let the Batman character have a bit of a rest from film for a couple of decades in order to let to let Christopher Nolans trilogy have a bit of space to develop a legacy as a great portrayal of the character. Unfortunately, the studio enjoys making money (somewhat understandably) and so this will not be the case. This got me thinking, however, what would it take to entice me into seeing another version of Batman on film? The lure of a Justice League movie isnt enough for me if it is just simply going to re-hash the characters origins. Therefore, I propose one way to reboot Batman from a new angle but also to keep things fresh would be to tell the story from the perspective of a new main character: Robin. Im not suggesting carrying on with the Joseph Gordon Levitt Robin either here (I didnt interpret the ending of The Dark Knight Rises as setting up a sequel, I saw it as an ending to the trilogy) but a completely new angle on the boy wonder as a teenage orphan who is taken under the wing of an elusive billionaire, Bruce Wayne. To make a few points clear before I begin I would like to urge readers to firstly forget the horrible mishandling of Robin in Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. Secondly I would also like people to bear in mind that I am not a comic book fan and that my ideas here are coming from the viewpoint of a film fan with access to Wikipedia and comments pages on film websites. Finally I would like to establish that I didnt see John Blake in The Dark Knight Rises as Robin, I saw him as the next Batman. With all that in mind here are my five reasons why the Batman reboot would be best if it focused on Robin as its lead.
