Batman Ninja Review: 5 Ups & 4 Downs

The craziest Batman movie ever.

Warner Bros.' latest DC animated movie, Batman Ninja, is out now on VOD, arriving on a surge of hype due to its tantalising marketing campaign, which has emphasised how it'll allow fans to see Batman as they never have before.

To that end, Batman Ninja most certainly lives up to the hype, in that there's really no other story starring the Caped Crusader that's anything like it. After all, where else can you see Batman transported back to Feudal Japan after Gorilla Grod builds a time machine?

It does have its many issues, however, and if you're a regular viewer of DC animation you'll probably already know what a few of them are. You certainly can't accuse the filmmakers of just hastily churning this one out for an easy buck, though.

There's a real care and craft here that's lacking in so many other Batman animated movies, and while the script could certainly have used some extra work, it's hard not to give the film at least a mild thumbs-up, especially in light of some of the Dark Knight's recent animated disappointments...
