Batman v Superman: Zack Snyder Confirms Awesome Fan Theory
Basically, Superman doesn't like skulls.
If you pay attention to the fanbase around the DCEU - and in particular Zack Snyder's movies - you'll know that there's nothing modern DC movie fans like more than theorising on and agonising over Batman v Superman. Perhaps because of the underwhelming critical reaction, less cynical fans have sought to encourage a deeper reading, to change the narrative, and their digging does seem to uncover details that were missed initially that actually do add to the experience.
The latest isn't quite on the profound spectrum, but it's interesting because of Zack Snyder's response to it.
One theory - which was posted on hipster social media network Vero (and then on Reddit) suggested that the Day Of The Dead scene in Batman v Superman is a direct mirror of the nightmarish scene in Man Of Steel that sees Supes dragged down by the skulls of those killed when Zod took over the world.
That vision was ultimately realised despite Superman's attempts to save the planet, as his battle with Zod killed thousands anyway. In Batman v Superman, he's then once more surrounded by skulls "dragging him down" at the same time as exalting him as a God-like hero, and idealising him in a way that imprisons him.
The theory interestingly drew a response from Snyder, who admitted that it was correct, no doubt to the poster's delight. And inevitably, that's going to encourage more fans to continue to read the film in even greater detail.
