Birds Of Prey Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
A refreshingly energetic DCEU romp.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is in cinemas now, and furthers the case that the DC Extended Universe has finally found its firm footing after those awkward, disappointing earlier years.
While hardly a comic book movie for the ages, Birds of Prey is nevertheless a highly entertaining, visually arresting, and well-acted romp that never takes itself too seriously for even a single moment.
Sure to be compared to Deadpool until the end of time, the ensemble action flick nevertheless forges its own identity as a refreshingly offbeat - and yes, R-rated - romp that couldn't feel further from the dour earlier entries into the DCEU.
Reviews have largely been solidly positive for the film so far, which following the acclaimed Aquaman and Shazam! marks the third consecutive critical hit for the franchise.
Considering that the film in which Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) debuted, Suicide Squad, was largely panned by critics - despite praise for her performance - this is quite the turnaround indeed.
It remains to be seen whether or not Birds of Prey will soar at the box office, but if it does, it's only inevitable that we'll be seeing Harley on our screens again as soon as possible...
