BOND 23 scrapped, next 007 movie could be years away

The continuing financial problems of MGM could mean we have seen Daniel Craig as 007 for the last time.

The news from The Mirror (I know a tabloid, but this one I'm hearing is true) that the 23rd James Bond film has been officially scrapped isn't a surprise to anyone - it was always the inevitable conclusion of this horrendous situation that MGM have found themselves in. Back in April, we heard that Bond 23 had been 'indefinitely suspended' until MGM could fix their financing woes and the likelihood was that Peter Morgan and his team of writers continued to polish up their script during the downtime, in the hope that a resolution could be found. Now it seems no development on Bond 23 is active and until MGM find a buyer (which could be months/years away) - there will be no more James Bond films. I feel sorry for Daniel Craig who isn't getting any younger and his prime years as the character are being wasted right now. Depending on how long this drags on - he might even have portrayed 007 for the last time. The situation is reminiscent of a previous sale of MGM in the early 90's, when production post-License to Kill was postponed several times because of financing problems and eventually in 1995 resulted in Goldeneye. That movie was a whole different project to the one MGM were originally planning for their 17th James Bond movie with Timothy Dalton. Right now, it's looking very possible that the next James Bond movie (please don't say it's 2014 or beyond) will be a completely different production than the one the Bond team have been attempting to crack over the past 18 months.
