Brazilian director offered the chance to bring back Jack Ryan?
Fernando Meirelles, the director of CITY OF GOD, A CONSTANT GARDNER and the currently filming adaptation of Jose Saramago's dramatic novel BLINDNESS (w/Mark Rufallo, Julianne Moore and Gael Garcia Bernal) has been offered the job of directing Paramount's in development movie BY ANY MEANS NECCESARY. It looks like he might accept the job too, undoubtedly his biggest picture to date... if it doesn't clash with his schedule on his next film.

If you couldn't guess from the title, the movie is the next film in the Jack Ryan franchise which we reported earlier this week controversially wouldn't be based on Tom Clancy's writings and if talks are successful, would star Ryan Golsing as the fourth actor to have played the CIA agent on screen after Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck. Meirelles is a highly respect talent in the industry and it's no surprise to me that his name has become in-demand for such a feature like this. Although I wasn't a fan of the way he shot A CONSTANT GARDNER, I did think his work on CITY OF GOD was absolutely terrific and if he could bring that claustrophobic "danger at every corner" atmosphere and high adrenalin rush running through a Jack Ryan flick... then he could be the perfect guy to resurrect this dead franchise. Though I'm still not convinced on Gosling. I do like the guy and his work has been impressive but it takes a special kind of actor to play someone like Ryan. That little bit of authority maybe. Affleck didn't really have it, casting Gosling seems like a repeat of a past mistake. source - moviehole, cinema em cena, coming soon
