Bruce Willis Goes LOOPER

By Owain Paciuszko /

In desperate need of a better headline, it falls upon me to report that - according to Deadline - Bruce Willis has been signed up to play the older Joseph Gordon Levitt in Rian Johnson's 'Looper'. A time travel sci-fi thriller that has a brain scratching premise, involving hitmen whose victims are sent back through time to be executed, these assassins (Loopers) bump them off in the present so there is no trace of the crime in the future... or something? Anway, this project reunites writer/director Johnson with his 'Brick' star Levitt, after Johnson's 'The Brothers Bloom' got mangled by a very poor release schedule and bad marketing; it's still trundling towards a proper cinema debut on UK shores. Willis and Levitt will be playing the same character in different time-frames, other than that little is really known about the plot and style of the film; Johnson began a blog in November 2009 that through quotes, videos and images has given a sort of sense of where his thoughts and ideas may lie but, of course, how this will translate into the finished film is anyone's guess. Still, it's one of Willis' more intriguing choices of late, and when he's dabbled with dark sci-fi time travel before the results ('12 Monkeys') have been fantastic.
