While Batman and Superman will probably spar at some point during the Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman, there will of course be a villain to bring them together and pave the way for the Justice League film in 2017. So who will this be? A lot of people are assuming that this will be none other than Lex Luthor, and this has led to wild speculation and rumours about who will play the Man of Steel's arch enemy. Almost every bald actor in Hollywood has been sounded out for the role, but one has piqued my interest. Last week, there was a rumour about Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston potentially being on the shortlist to play Lex Luthor in the next Superman movie. Over the weekend, Cranston responded to these rumours. It sounds good, and it sounds like he is interested. The actor told the Metro:
"Give me a call...I like Lex Luthor. I think he's misunderstood. He's a loveable, sweet man."
Mr. Cranston is no stranger to the DC Universe, and he knows what he is talking about. The actor voiced Commissioner Gordon in the Batman: Year One animated feature back in 2011. And there is more fuel for this fire, as Latino Review's El Mayimbe also says that Cranston is up for the part. The site has been very accurate with their superhero scoops in the past, so there is reason to get excited. Another actor tipped for the part is Mark Strong, Digital Spy asked Strong about rumours around his ties to Luthor. He said cryptically:
"All I can say is... watch this space..."
They could go with anyone; it doesn't even have to be a bald guy (as they did with Kevin Spacey/ Gene Hackman). In any case, things are really starting to take form with this one, and you can bet that Luthor will be awesome on-screen fodder for Batman and Superman. What do you think? Would you like to see Cranston in the role of Lex Luthor, or do you prefer Mark Strong? Let me know in the comments below!
