A sudden spate of Wrath of the Titans casting news has sprung forth from the ether. Deadline broke the news earlier that Venezuelan-born actor Edgar Ramirez, he of the mightily impressive mini-series Carlos, is reportedly close to inking a deal to play Ares the God of War in the forthcoming Clash of the Titans sequel. The whispers are that Ramirez has scored the part that Javier Bardem was said to be in contention for, which seems like a fair swap on paper, but its doubtful whether man of the moment James Franco, who was also on the Titans shopping list will join the project. Theres only so much of the guy to go around. The handful of people who didnt forget the film before their popcorn was digested may remember British gangster movie stalwart Tamer Hassan filled the role in Clash of the Titans, but he didnt do anything (dont think the gods called each other c***ts), seemingly being more of a placeholder than anything else. If this isn't enough, The Wrap later added word that Rock n Rolla's Toby Kebbell is in talks for the role of Agenor while Hayley Atwell (Captain America), Georgina Haig (Wasted on The Young), Janet Montgomery (Black Swan), Dominique McElligott (seen briefly in Moon and Leap Year) and Clemence Poesy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) are shortlisted and testing for the role of Andromeda.
