Chris Pratt has nabbed the lead in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Deadline is reporting that the charismatic Parks & Recreation and Zero Dark Thirty star will play Star-Lord (aka Peter Quill) in the August 1st, 2014 release... easily Marvel's most offbeat and ambitious movie to date. Raised on Earth, Quill learns that his father was from outer space which leads to him becoming the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It was reported that Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey were courted for the role of Rocket Raccoon. Neither have signed deals with Marvel and none of the other cast has been announced. Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Gamora are said to be the main characters of the picture. If it is true Gunn wishes to hire Carrey or Sandler alongside Pratt, perhaps Gunn is going for a more light-hearted take on the characters, going after well known comedy actors to portray these weird and wonderful characters that will take the Marvel Cinematic Universe to whole new places. Deadline adds that Pratt's Zero Dark Thirty co-star Joel Edgerton, Boardwalk Empire's Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace and Eddie Redmayne all had test deals for the role, which Joseph Gordon-Levitt may have already turned down, depending on who you believe. Zachary Levi was also rumoured for the role. What do you think of the casting of Pratt? Leave your comments below!
