There's two reasons why the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Blu-ray didn't make it into the Blu-ray portion of the OWF Christmas Guide; 1) Despite initially having lofty hopes for the film, in the end I wasn't the biggest fan of what Edgar Wright delivered. I know for many it was the dawning of the new age of movie geekdom but personally I felt the movie showed all it's cards after the first twenty minutes or so, leaving the film with little where else to go but downhill... and boy was I bored. 2) Scott Pilgrim ain't hitting Blu-ray until two days after Christmas Day in the U.K. - despite it already being released in the U.S. But it was the first reason more than this one for why I omitted it. Now Simon Gallagher swears by the movie and we've had numerous conversations together over the past few weeks as we were putting together the guide where he suggests I should load up the gun in my desk drawer and shoot myself in the head immediately* because I've lost my soul and I can no longer enjoy pure entertainment. Now usually I just ignore Simon's passionate rants about movies he likes because they are usually so belonging to his personal eccentricities (Simon is the guy after all who recently said the Moulin Rouge Blu-ray release was one of his most anticipated of all time) that I ain't ever gonna agree with him. However on this one, he's so passionate about the movie, he kind of makes me want to revisit it and give it a second chance. You see, I know I should eat up Scott Pilgrim like it is Ice Cream with sickly sweet strawberry syrup covering all of it. The movie is a sugar rush to the system of things I love. It is, in theory, hitting all my favourite buttons and any movie that has a cool Nintendo inspired Blu-ray insert that artist Adam Lowe and director Edgar Wright have made legally available to download and actively encourage you to place on your DVD case, and is a movie I should love... SEE MUCH LARGER VERSION HERE I mean am I really not into a movie that has this much cool stuff associated to it? * Of course I'm talking about my super soaker water pistol...
