Although the news has all but been confirmed previously, actor Daniel Bruhl has now officially confirmed to The Independent that he is indeed appearing as Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War. As many had speculated, he will portray Baron Helmut Zemo, the son of the original Baron Heinrich Zemo, who in the comics was a former Hydra scientist who fought Captain America during World War II. His son makes much more sense for the current timeline as in the comics he teamed with Captain America: Winter Soldier villains Arnim Zola and Batroc in an attempt to take down Captain America, and at one point becomes disfigured when he falls into a vat of his father's chemical Adhesive X. Bruhl said;
€œI think I can tell you that without being thrown into Marvel prison,€ Brühl said. €œFor the first few days I€™ll walk around like a little boy, just amazed by the megalomania of it. It€™s such a huge project. We could do 20 films with the budget.€
Captain America: Civil War will also find Steve Rogers dealing with the villainous Crossbones, with actor Frank Grillo tweeting today about his return in the new sequel; https://twitter.com/FrankGrillo/status/592425440272220160 Just as X-Men: Apocalypse has begun production today, April 27th also marks the start of filming on Captain America: Civil War in Atlanta, Berlin and Puerto Rico. Chris Evans will return as Captain America with significant roles for his Avengers allies Robert Downey Jr (as Iron Man), Anthony Mackie (as The Falcon), Scarlett Johansson (as Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (as Hawkeye) and Elizabeth Olsen (as Scarlet Witch). Making their highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts will be Chadwick Boseman as Black Pnather and a new-actor as Spider-Man. Captain America: Civil War is due for release on May 6th, 2016.
