It's still well over a month to go before the film is released but it seems that Universal is quietly confident about the performance of their fairy tale re-imagining, 'Snow White and the Huntsman' that naturally talks of a sequel are already underway. Veteran Hollywood writer David Koepp is in talks to begin bashing out the screenplay. Deadline is also reporting that executives at Universal are hoping to fast track the project so that original 'Hunstman' helmer, Rupert Sanders, can return to the director's chair. The Universal film, released this June, features Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth as the titular characters and Charlize Theron as the evil Queen Ravenna and sets out to reinvent the classic fairy tale as an epic Lord of the Rings style fantasy adventure, as Charlize Theron's evil Queen dispatches Hemsworth's Huntsman to track down and kill Snow White but instead ends up training the fairest of them all in the art of combat to take down the evil queen. The trailers and footage for 'Snow White and the Huntsman' have thus far been intriguing, promising a wholly darker and more action orientated take on the material than we've seen before. We've already had a new take on the Snow White legend with the more family friendly and widely panned Julia Roberts vehicle 'Mirror, Mirror' but so far 'Huntsman' looks far more interesting, promising something far more epic, with battles, magical creatures, Charlize Theron bathing in milk and a film featuring Kristen Stewart that doesn't feature sparkly vampire types and topless ab-tastic werewolves.A sequel has apparently been on the cards at Universal for some time with reports suggesting that the proposed sequel could focus on Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman character with Universal no doubt hoping to build a successful series of films based off the success of this summer's release. Starting work on a sequel at an early stage like this is nothing new for big studio tent-pole movies. Just this week we reported that Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will hired to redraft a sequel to 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and before it became the infamous flop that it now is, Andrew Stanton was busy at work on a 'John Carter' sequel. Well, we all know what happened there... David Koepp is one of Hollywood's most prolific screenwriters whose credits include among others, 'Jurassic Park', 'Spider-Man', 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Panic Room'.
