Deadpool 2: Daredevil's Drew Goddard Working On The Script
He's helping original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick on the sequel.
It's all been a little quiet on the Deadpool 2 front, with little in the news since it was announced that David Leitch (John Wick) would be taking over directing duties from Tim Miller.
Since then, we've had various rumours about casting for Cable and Domino, but now word comes that the hold-up with the movie, which still doesn't have a release date, has been the screenplay.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first movie, have been hard at work alongside Ryan Reynolds in trying to craft the sequel, and Collider are reporting that Drew Goddard has been brought in to help with the script.
Goddard has proven himself to be an extremely talented writer in recent years, overseeing the first season of Marvel's Daredevil and penning the screenplay for Ridley Scott's The Martian (for which he received an Oscar nomination). He seems a good fit to help out here, although Ryan Reynolds has clarified that the screenplay is still very much the work of Reese and Wernick.
It was reported earlier in the week that Deadpool 2 would begin shooting on May 1, after a listing appeared on My Entertainment World. If that is indeed the case, then hopefully it means the screenplay is close to being finished, and Goddard - whatever the true extent of his involvement in - can help polish it off before the film starts shooting.
20th Century Fox currently have four release dates marked for Marvel movies: March 2, June 29, and November 18 of next year, and then February 14, 2019. March next year might seem a little early if it doesn't start shooting until May, but it could feasibly be any of the others. February 14 is close to the original's release date, and means we could get some great Deadpool Valentine's marketing, but these dates could always change in the future.
