Three cheers for meta-cameos...

Though the prospect of Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine in a movie opposite Ryan Reynolds is now limited to fantasies (mostly Reynolds' fantasies, at that), that hasn't stopped the writers of Deadpool 2 wanting to unite the two actors in the forthcoming sequel.

The dynamic has already sort of happened, with 'Pool wearing a Jackman mask in his first movie, but now THR has spoken to Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and an intriguing idea came up in conversation.

THR writer Aaron Couch pitched the idea of Hugh Jackman turning up as himself, rather than as Wolverine, since in Deadpool's universe, Logan was playing in cinemas. Reese replied surprisingly positively...

“I like that. Deadpool lives in a world where Hugh Jackman is out there. He’s got the People’s Sexiest Man Alive cover that he staples to his forehead in the first movie, so maybe he could meet Hugh as Hugh. That would be really funny.”

Let's not get carried away here, but that's exactly the kind of meta-cameo that would perfectly suit Deadpool's world, and it would be a nice way to extend Jackman's presence in the X-Men movie universe without him going back on his vow to not play Wolverine again.

Fingers crossed they actually work on it.
