I wasn't kidding in yesterday's Green Lantern post. I am 100% done with comic book movies that aren't made by the master's touch of Chris Nolan or Matthew Vaughan. Done. I can no longer feel myself getting excited or in a place where I would be looking forward to any of them, especially Sony's web-slinging reboot, which I still think is a horrible creative idea (Sony would probably admit as much, but money is what makes the world go around). I'm reading this morning that Rescue Me creator/actor Denis Leary is joining the cast of Spider-Man 3D (or whatever it's going to be called) as Police Captain George Stacy, the father of Emma Stone's Gwen and the one figure in Parker's life who openly supports the costumed hero. James Cromwell played the part in the last movie.
SPOILERS TO FOLLOW IF YOU AREN'T AWARE OF THE COMICS HISTORY....
I wonder if this is what they have planned for Stacy this time... I want to be excited that Hollywood is one month away from shooting on a fourth big screen Spider-Man film... but I still can't get over the fact this is a unnecessary do-over. My apologies to director Marc Webb who is putting together a fine cast (though re-casting J Jonah Jameson is naturally giving him a headache) but I can't drum up the interest. Sorry.
