"It's definitley more of a very character based crime movie. I don't know what's going on with it right now, but the premise is that this guy was the most gangster of all time in Las Vegas, and he's left the life and created this whole new world. His wife died but he's raising his kid. He's living in the middle of nowhere and he's this very religious, trying to live a straight life guy. His daughter is now going to school at UCLA and she disappears, and he goes looking for her. The trail leads to Vegas and he has to go get her, and the entire city kind of comes down on top of him".
Carpenter is currently in pre-production on RIOT, his first movie in seven years which he has been trying to sell financing for at the AFM. It's a prison movie that follows lifer Nicolas Cage who comes to the aid of the governor's delinquent son who is sent to prison for a short sentence to clean up his act but is the easy target for a hostage during a riot. Glad to have Carpenter back, hopefully his break from movies has given him a good chance to recharge his batteries and bring back that enthusiasm for telling stories that so evident in his earlier career. And doesn't THE PRINCE sound awesome?
