The animation studio who couldn't put a foot wrong - until Cars 2 slightly blotted their copybook thanks to some unrealistic expectations and a ridiculous critical response that missed the point of the film entirely - have released some sparse details of the two feature film projects that will follow Brave (June 22nd, 2012) and Monsters University (June 21st 2013). The projects were announced as part of the studio's D23 Expo. First up - coming November 27th, 2013 - is an as-yet-untitled dinosaur feature, directed by Bob Peterson (co-director/writer of Up) and produced by John Walker which seeks to ask the question: What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? The second offering, which will directed by Pete Docter, and produced by Jonas Rivera, has a slightly more impenetrable teaser synopsis at the minute: Pixar takes audiences on incredible journeys into extraordinary worlds: from the darkest depths of the ocean to the top of the tepui mountains in South America; from the fictional metropolis of Monstropolis to a futuristic fantasy of outer space. The inventive new film will take you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind. It's slated for release on May 30th 2014, and we'd wager will feature a premise along the lines of Inner Space meets Meet Dave meets A Bug's Life, with an internal community of personified bodily functions and operations and whatnot. Sounds at least like a good opportunity to show of the studio's flare for detail and environment building. But, hang on - dinosaurs? The end of the world? Pretentious synopses relating to the inner universe of the mind? Since when was Terrence Malick working as a consultant on Pixar projects?
