From Disney live-action remakes to Star Wars and Marvel, there's a lot coming from the Mouse House.
It all started with a mouse. Now they rule the world.
With their takeover of Fox expected to be finalised next year, Disney will move a step closer to the domination of Hollywood, if not the globe, but it's not like the Mouse House even needs the help. Alongside its own picture house, which has decades of history in producing beloved films for countless generations and making serious bank in the process, they own Pixar, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm.
That not only adds up to a helluva lot of dough, but a mammoth slate of movies under the Disney umbrella. With multiple MCU films a year, plus new entries in long-running franchises from their other major brands, more animated offers, and a seemingly endless slew of live-action remakes of their own classics, there's a lot to come from Disney that you need to have in your calendar already - although not all of it is worth getting too excited about.
32. The Nutcracker And The Four Realms
Release Date: November 2, 2018
A movie that's going to put the pulling power of Disney to the test, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms doesn't seem to have all that much hype around it as things stand, and it's out in just a couple of weeks.
The movie, directed by veterans Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston and based upon E. T. A. Hoffmann's story and Tchaikovsky's ballet, stars the likes of Keira Knightley, Mackenzie Foy, Helen Mirren, and Morgan Freeman in a new, CGI-fuelled telling of the classic tale.
However, while the cast is impressive, it doesn't have the sort of grabbing power as Disney's remakes do, a similar problem A Wrinkle In Time faced earlier this year (for which muted reviews didn't help). It looks like a forgettable tentpole, and is perhaps a little too far out from Christmas, which is reflected in the lack of buzz.
