The long-awaited adaptation of Orson Scott Card's beloved novel, Ender's Game, has finally hit theaters, opening with decent box office numbers and a mixed reaction from critics (read WhatCulture writer Matt Hirons' review here). It features an Earth seventy years after an alien invasion, desperately preparing to avoid annihilation by recruiting a young boy who may be the savior of the human race. As original as the plot is, alien-invasion movies are nothing new. Ender's Game joins the pantheon of countless films that pit humanity in a desperate fight for survival against extraterrestrial forces. It also provides the basis for this weekend's weigh-in.
