The very first teaser posters for Quentin Tarantino's forthcoming black slavery western Django Unchained are appropriately Saul Bass-like and very spaghetti western-esque which its minimalist design concept and its conscious effort to be very sparse on details. It reminds me actually of the very popular contemporary movement of fan-made posters which usually focus in on one particular image or theme from a movie rather than something a studio would release. There's no mention of the film's title, except in very small writing a note that you should visit UnchainedMovie.com and facebook.com/unchainedmovie, but there's absolutely no mention of Django Unchained. There's no tagline beyond "The New Film By Quentin Tarantino" and let's not forget that this is a huge movie from Sony/The Weinstein Company coming this Christmas and one that stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington and Kurt Russell... plenty of big names and genuine stars but for the first teaser poster at least, you would never know this. Then again Quentin Tarantino is as a big a draw in himself as any of the names above and we can understand the first tease going with his name alone. Sony's Spanish Twitter account (of all places) unloaded the first one-sheet last night, which was then quickly followed in the U.S. by the English-language poster via Yahoo. You can see both of them below; Meanwhile it seems Tarantino quietly added veteran actor Walter Goggins to his cast in the past week or so. GQ magazine got the scoop, revealing he will play Billy Crash, one of two slave wranglers to DiCaprio's Calvin Candie. The actor told GQ; "This movie is radical. It's like a kid walking into a candy store, to use a trite, overused metaphor. I can't believe it. I just started work this week, and my very first day, I'm looking up, and there's Quentin. I'm in Quentin's world, in his imagination," Goggins enthused. "His cinematic acumen is unparalleled, and he's able to draw from all these resources, which are all the movies that have ever been made. He's seen most, if not all of them, and he really is an auteur. He's a savant auteur who is as passionate and as playful as any artist I've ever worked with. His enthusiasm is infectious, and the story is a movie that only Quentin Tarantino could make." Currently shooting out in New Orleans, Django Unchained will hit on Christmas Day this year. Probably the best Christmas present you can ever hope to receive is a new movie from Quentin Tarantino!
