Get A First Look At Kong: Skull Island

Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston? Count us in.

Not that anyone asked for another King Kong film or anything, but our first look at Kong: Skull Island - courtesy of last night's MTV Movies Awards - is here by way of a video clip hosted by two of its leading stars, the Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston (yes, they're both in this).

As we learn in this clip, the plot of Skull Island hones in on a group of explorers as they travel to the titular island in search of their leader's - played Hiddleston - missing brother. Interestingly, it's set during the Vietnam war era, which actually gives it an unexpectedly unique slant.

You can probably guess that a lot of bad stuff happens in their rescue attempts, some of which involves a giant ape-like creature.

The film, which was directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, scripted John Gatins and Max Borenstein and also stars Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman (how lucky are we?), is rumoured to be part of a cinematic universe that will see it melded with that of Godzilla in the future, presumably as a way to pave the way for their inevitable versus movie.

Now, I'm somebody who genuinely believes that Peter Jackson's 2005 King Kong remake was a masterpiece and I'm not all that convinced that we're ready for something like Kong: Skull Island just yet - especially since it seems similar in its aesthetic approach. That said, Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston's involvement makes me want to see it immediately.

How's that for a contradiction?

King Kong: Skull Island arrives in theatres on March 10, 2017.
