Good News: Indiana Jones 5 WON'T Have Shia LaBeouf
There's no room for daddy's special guy.
Given how poorly he was received in Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skulls, it shouldn't really come as too much of a surprise that Shai LaBeouf's character Mutt Williams isn't one of the more popular late additions to the Indiana Jones universe.
He was widely scapegoated for far bigger issues with the film, in all honesty, and LaBeouf is a far better actor than the material gave him credit for, so he could have had another chance. The fact that he was revealed to be Indy's son should also have made it impossible for him not to get that other chance, since Indy surely wouldn't be the kind of sh*tbag father to forget about his son existing.
But that's exactly what's going to happen, because the latest news from the 2020 release - which has been pushed back in Steven Spielberg's queue - is that while Harrison Ford is definitely back, hie son isn't.
That comes courtesy of writer David Koepp, who spoke to EW about the project and confirmed that Indy's heir won't step up to take the franchise on from him. Not even played by someone else, by the sound of it:
“Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say. And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film”.
Koepp also revealed a little on the progress of the film: “we’re plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start, I think that’s up to Mr Spielberg and Mr Ford… I know we’ve got a script we’re mostly happy with”.
Mostly happy at least suggests it's not going to go through a million rewrites. So it might actually get into production in 2019 as initially expected.
