Guardians Of The Galaxy 2: Matthew McConaughey Turns Down Villain Role
So it wasn't Norman Osborne he was reading for, then...
According to Variety, Gunn and Marvel wanted snake-hipped former rom-com dross-artist Matthew McConaughey to slur drunkenly all over the screen as the films villain. This follows the actors confirmation months ago that hed read for a Marvel role (which everyone thought would be Norman Osborne). But hes now turned it down, and Marvel will presumably have to look for another actor of his profile to fill the boots. Surely those boots cant belong to Peter Quill senior? Unless he was but a child of 9 when he sired his earth child? Putting age aside (admittedly Chris Pratt looks a young 36), the suggestion of Quill senior belonging to an angelic ancient alien race and the promise of McConaugheys good looks might get a few pulses racing on the Sentry fan forums. What do you think of this casting news? Are you happy to see the back of McConaughey? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
In the wake of Spider-Man being added to the MCU, and Hulk going on a super-buds road trip with Thor, and the announcement of three more movies, the fact that Marvel are actually still pushing on with original plans has been quietly ignored. While James Gunn has mostly remained silent on the Guardians of The Galaxy sequel, he has broken cover to say Hulk will never, ever team up with his guys (take it with a pinch of salt) and it does seem hes actually working. He has now cast his first newcomer, bringing in French actress Pom Klementieff for a role that supposedly required an Asian actress, and hes also apparently suffered his first casting defeat.
