Harrison Ford Will Probably Be In Indiana Jones 5 (But He WON'T Be The Star)
Has the reboot already nuked the fridge?
There will be another Indiana Jones 5. I don't think anybody seriously thinks that Disney will simply leave the other big Lucasfilm property to stagnate, bringing in only profits from the Blu-Ray rerelease of the The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. The big question is in what form will the next movie take. Will Steven Spielberg return to direct (George Lucas is presumably off the writing duties)? When will it be set? And who's going to play the hero? The popular opinion has been that it'll be something of a reboot, with Chris Pratt taking up the titular role. Pratt has already channeled Ford before, his Star-Lord in Guardians Of The Galaxy a more juvenile version of Han Solo, so this feels like inspired casting. But it's now looking like that may just be wishful thinking pushed by fan desire (kinda like Pratt as a young Han Solo, a bizarre idea that makes no sense when you consider he's older than Ford as a regular-aged Solo) and doesn't have the closest relation to the current state of affairs. Frank Marshall, the producer of the previous films of the series (and husband to Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy) has recently said the plan is for the fifth Indy film to once again star Harrison Ford. Wait, what? Talking to Total Film, he said, " not doing the Bond thing where were going to call somebody else Indiana Jones we have to figure this out." The internet's gone a little crazy over this, flashbacks to 2008 getting everyone a bit worried. Ford looked tired, or otherwise disinterested, in Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull and while he's certainly more game for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there's going to be few people wanting him to put on the fedora and whip again, this time in his seventies. However, if you delve into the interview further, there's quotes that reveal things are much vaguer than they seem; he also said "We havent even sat down to talk about Indy yet at some point well sit down. But theres a bunch of people who could probably take the baton." So while it's easy to take Marshall's words as meaning Ford is going to lead a new film as Indy, it's much more likely to be a state of affairs like Star Wars, with him helping in a new generation. Which isn't much better, but is still better. Just don't bring back Shia, OK? What do you think? Should Ford come back? Or should Disney bite the bullet and just recast Indy? Let us know down in the comments.
