One of the big influences in Hot Fuzz was of course the Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze 90's homo-erotic cop movie Point Break. Break was to Fuzz, what James Bond was to Austin Powers. Peter Iliff the writer of Point Break has discussed the idea of a sequel with Channel News Asia. It looks as if he wants do write and direct the movie, which will be set in Asia.
"I would like to return to Point Break because it represents my career coming full circle. The original was the first movie I ever wrote, the sequel would be my first ever directorial effort."
RGM Films are looking to produce the movie, which will have a big budget of $30 million!
"We are extremely excited about making the sequel to a movie that was well received and highly regarded by audiences all around the world," said RGMs chief executive Devesh Chetty.
Patrick Swayze's name is being touted as probable to return, but it's extremely unlikely Keanu Reeves will be involved. The new film will focus on an ex-professional surfer who joins the U.S. Navy and is sent to track down a criminal gang in South East Asia. That plot sounds pure Point Break to me. I loved Hot Fuzz, but I think that was mainly because it was a comedy version of that type of cop movie. Point Break and buddy cop movies in general, are such a thing of the 90's, I don't know if they could work these days. source - moviehole
